Our Panelists:

Afsa Akbar – Service Designer – British Red Cross
Afsa is passionate and about designing services that people value and bring positive change to their lives. She’s currently working at British Red Cross helping the digital transformation team design services for their volunteers. Previously, she worked at NHS Digital, Snook and worked on the trail-blazing research commissioned by Comic Relief on TechVsAbuse. On the side, she loves building communities and co-runs Service Lab – a meetup for service design practitioners and anyone who’s curious about service design.

Magdalena Mips – UX Designer – Macmillan Cancer Support

Magdalena is a UX designer with a background in Humanities. She works at Macmillan Cancer Support, where she combines user research and design in everyday work. Her main focus is on fundraising products, one of which, Free Wills Service, has just won the National Fundraising Award 2020 for Legacy Campaign of the Year. She also supports cooperation with external partners and digital transformation program.

Before joining Macmillan she worked in software houses and one of the leading Polish companies on media streaming services and job board app among other products.

She believes it’s vital to be mindful of the influence digital products have on users’ lives, and follow inclusive and ethical design principles. Let’s be good ancestors.

Abi Calver – Digital Strategist
As a digital strategist for the not-for-profit sector, Abi combines creativity with a love of data, user research & behavioural science to achieve impactful results for charities.

She began her career working for an international children’s charity, editing, and then managing, their website and devising engaging digital campaigns. Since then she’s worked for Fat Beehive – one of the leading website design and build agencies for the third sector – on projects for clients including Action Against Hunger, Tommy’s, Redress and Greenpeace UK. She’s recently taken the plunge into the freelance world and is working with WWF International on increasing digital engagement and the One Acre Fund, where she’s developing a new digital fundraising strategy.

Rachael Gilthorpe – Digital Services Lead – Action for Children

At Action for Children Rachael is responsible for developing and delivering user-led and sustainable digital services that meet the needs, wants and behaviours of parents across the UK. She leads and works with multidisciplinary teams, including user researchers, product managers, front line operational staff, tech and design agencies, digital marketers, content designers and their most important partner – parents!

Sunil is a Senior UX Designer at Aviva in London. He has been at Aviva for 3 years working across design systems, public websites, investments portals, events, and currently working on improving quote and pay journeys for the past year. Previous to Aviva he worked for Movebubble as one half of the design team and at Pancentric Digital working across multiple accounts such as PwC, DP World London Gateway and many more.

Sunil enjoys speaking/hosting for talks and conferences internationally. He also is passionate about mentoring and sharing with other designers.
